Folklore, Magic & Medicine - Plants of Appalachia with Hannah Lanning

Long before modern pharmacies, people turned to the field and the forest for healing medicines. Appalachia, one of the most biodiverse regions in the United States, has always been rich with plants that provide care and comfort. An essential part of daily life, these herbal remedies were handed down from generation to generation. In her presentation, Hannah Lanning will explore how certain plants used to be keystones in ancient Appalachian cultural practices, but now are taken for granted or even seen as weeds.

Master Gardener Hannah Lanning draws inspiration from the outdoors and the natural world that surrounds her. To that end, she has embarked on a life-long journey to learn all she could about wildlife and horticulture, and how to invite these things into our daily lives. In addition, she enjoys passing what she has learned to others who have a passion for nature.
