A creative and reflective workshop led by embroiderer and embroidery historian Ewan J Armstrong exploring the art of storytelling through stitch inspired by Cianalas ’s Dòchas | Homesickness and Hope Stories of Hebridean Emigration exhibition.
Taking inspiration from our Hebridean Emigration exhibition, and the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry, this workshop will weave together history, heritage, and creativity.

🧵 Explore related textile artefacts in the museum collection
🧵 Learn traditional crewel embroidery stitches and their symbolic meanings
🧵 Design and stitch your own motif inspired by Hebridean life, migration, and memory
🧵 Contribute to a collective ‘mini diaspora panel’ reflecting community, memory, and home
🧵No previous embroidery experience required and you’ll be guided step-by-step.
