In search of sewers for my Sew A Thon in Hanover PA February 28th 1-4
Sewing totes, toiletries bag and pillow case for a foster kid. No more black trash bags!
I did this at New York Wire Works last month and it was so much fun.
I will have all the fabric cut out. You just need to bring your sewing machine and notions. I will show you how to make them. New or experienced sewers are all welcome. Limited spaces available.
SJC All Stars Gym, located at 34 Broadway in Hanover, PA, has generously offered the use of their gym facility on February 28th from 1:00–4:00 PM. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.
SJC All Stars is a not-for-profit organization, meaning it isn’t a commercial business aimed at making a profit, but rather a community cheer and sports program that reinvests funds back into the team, training, and operations.
Amber, the owner, would also like to invite local youth to participate in the event as a way to help them learn the importance of giving back — and to introduce them to sewing in the process.
My thought is that our group could arrive a little before 1:00 PM to set up, begin sewing the tote and toiletries bag and then have the kids join us around 2:00 PM. Ideally, each sewer would work with one child to make one pillowcase. Afterward, the kids could hang out and help fill the comfort bags.
I think this is a wonderful opportunity to get the community involved, support the foster program, and complete the comfort bags in a meaningful way.
Please let me know if you’re interested in participating if so please message me your email so I can update up on the event. If you know anyone else who may be interested please pass along.
The first sew a thon we did we were able to fill 21 bags for foster kids. It was so much fun.
