Join the Kennebecasis Watershed Restoration Committee (KWRC), New Brunswick Invasive Species Council (NBISC), and the Canadian Rivers Institute (CRI) for an afternoon paddle on the Kennebecasis River in Hampton!
Two aquatic invasive plants, Eurasian Water-Milfoil and now Curly-Leaf Pondweed, have been spotted in the Kennebecasis River, which poses a huge threat to the balance of our native ecosystem AND our favourite recreational activities! This event aims to spread awareness about these species, and get your help in monitoring for their presence. Participants will learn how to identify these species, then we'll go for a leisurely paddle to look for them. The NBISC will also be operating their FREE boat wash station to ensure no invasive plant particles are leaving with us!
Take this opportunity to learn about the environment in your community, meet local experts, and spend some time on the water! Bring your own canoe/kayak/paddle board, though Osprey Adventures (right next to the boat launch) has rentals available.
Invite your friends, come out for a good time! 1pm at the Lighthouse River Centre (1075 Main Street, Hampton) on Sunday, September 14th. This event is sponsored by the Department of Fisheries & Oceans to help spread awareness about harmful aquatic invasives.
