The recently re-christened Midwest Underground Railroad Network (MURN, formerly the "Little Calumet River Underground Railroad Project") will be presenting to the Hammond Historical Society on Saturday, Sept. 6th, 2025, at 10:00am in the Community Room of the Hammond Public Library.
We are honored for Tom Shepherd & Larry McClellan to speak on their decades of research on the Underground Railroad in South Chicagoland -- that includes Northwest Indiana! -- and on their continuing efforts to recognize & preserve the Chicago-Detroit Freedom Trail that ran through our community in the mid-1800s! Come hear about an early part of Calumet Region history that is too often not talked about -- and hear about how you can help their efforts today, 160 years after heroic men & women of conscience helped brave African Americans to freedom!
