Feb 4th- BEGINNING AGAIN AND AGAIN. Finding confidence in movement
In this class we will discuss the role that movement currently has in our lives and new perspectives so that we can view it more holistically given realistic barriers and challenges. We will explore basic fundamental movements and variations and find ways to be more confident in getting up and down, reaching, and twisting. Whether you have regular movement practice in your life or you haven’t exercised in years, this class will help you gain the information needed to move forwards with ease and agency.
Feb 11th- MOVE THE PAIN. Tools to move safely through back and neck pain, old injuries and tightness
Chronic back pain is a prevalent issue that stops many folks from living their fullest lives and often prevents people from exercising or trying movement. In this class we will work on breathing and basic mobility for the entire spine so we can approach movement with less fear. We will also learn how to use a foam roller as a device that can aid in self massage for back, neck, chest, and rib cage mobility. Lastly, we will learn a few “nerve flosses” or stretches that help with nerve pain throughout the body.
Feb 18th- BONES & BALANCE. Balance challenges and strengthening major muscle groups
This class will focus on different ways to approach single leg balance exercises and accessible exercises to build strength in major muscle groups. Working on balance is incredibly important as we age in order to continue moving through the world with agency as well as preventing falling and gaining confidence in falling safely. Resistance training to build strength in the body is necessary for bone density and health, preventing or delaying osteoporosis or other bone related issues. Learn how to approach both topics in an accessible way with many variations.
Feb 25th- MOBILITY = LONGEVITY. Breaking the “im too tight for that” mentality and learning how to stretch
In this class we will focus on simple but effective stretches that can become a part of your daily routine. We will explore the parts of ourselves that feel like they are always tight as well as learn how to approach our bodies as a whole instead of separate, disconnected units. For example, stretching and strengthening our feet in order to address issues within our knees, hips, and/or back. By creating spacious pathways, we can open ourselves to mobility we didn’t have before, as it is genuinely never too late.
