Aromatic coffee, the ethereal sounds of the theremin and organ, and an irresistible story combine to create an extraordinary concert program featuring Andrew Levine (theremin), Kerstin Petersen (organ), and author Nils Petersen.
Nils Petersen reads from volume 2 of his fantasy series "Veljko's Café – The Secret of the Rauhnächte," published in 2025. The reading is accompanied by music from New York-based artist Andrew Levine and concert organist Kerstin Petersen: Andrew Levine plays the theremin – the only musical instrument that produces tones and sounds without being touched.
Using the Moog Claravox in combination with a modular synthesizer, he extracts the timbre from the sound of his voice. He also uses a Landscape Stereofield and polyphonic Continuum Fingerboard. This combination of electronic registers, woven together into an integral instrument, blends with the acoustic world of the organ pipes played by Kerstin Petersen. She elicits a gigantic range of fine, noble tones from the historic "wind instrument," from powerful tutti sounds to noisy, experimental sounds at the limits of perception.
Playing techniques newly developed especially for the concert program combine the settling processes of the organ pipes, wind noises, and electronic modules. The newly composed work "Stopp" (2025) by Nikolaus Gerszewski will be premiered.
The audience encounters the protagonists of the fantasy story in a 4D soundscape full of surprising diversity: The second Crack - The fragrant sound of the coffee bean.
