The art of holding space through a trauma aware lens and the practice of teaching yoga.
Anticipated to inform your relationship with yourself and with the space you hold, this learning opportunity has potential to grow and inform you as an individual and as an Instructor. Kindred welcomes those who are currently established in Yoga Teacher Training, as well as graduates thereof. Other mind-body space holders with a yoga practice may also feel called to join.
Exploratory in nature, this training is designed to contribute depth and dimension to one’s teaching by linking the interrelationship between the experience of trauma, the physical practice of yoga and the mind-body connection. As a space holder for the asana aspect of yoga, we will examine how to cultivate core principles of trauma aware care in the yoga room, while teaching in community class settings.
The experience is shared in community through theory, physiology, energetics, introspective reflection and practical action as we explore:
The physiology of trauma
The nervous system and the brain
Energetics of emotional holding patterns in the physical body as trauma responses
The science of yoga as a physical and energetic practice and moving through trauma responses
The art of holding space
Pillars of trauma aware care
Awareness of activations/triggers as a yoga teacher and how they may inform your teaching
How to cultivate core principles of trauma aware care in the yoga room
Please bring your yoga mat, lunch/refreshments, water bottle, journal and pen. Don’t forget your already existing wisdom. Dress for daily practice.

Your Space Holder:
Nicole Clarke (she/her)
A Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500hr level and a Trauma Aware Facilitator, Nicole is passionate about holding space for people to attune to their own wisdom and build capacity to be in service to themselves and others. Nicole serves from a well-trekked path of integrated lived experiences, as well as personal and professional development from a 20 year career in social services, holding space for those navigating barriers to social determinants of health, often with complex trauma at the root. In addition, Nicole brings forth an energetic component through her historical practice as a Reiki Master/Teacher, BodyTalk Practitioner and Intuitive. Inspired by people with mud-soaked hands who afford a wellspring of “aha moments” that help tip people into alignment to feel a little more buoyant, she weaves webs of curiosity, compassion, grace and laughter into her space holding. Nicole values cultivating a sense of community and is passionate about circling up, showing up and sharing with others.
