Time Control: Game in 75 minutes with a 30-second increment starting at move 1.
Prizes:
• The winner’s name will be engraved on the Dalhousie Open trophy.
• The winner will be qualified to play at the Dalhousie Chess Championship.
• Cash prizes will be awarded to high-performing players, based on the number of entries.
• Grand Prix points will be rewarded to the top 12 places
Tiebreaks:
• There will be no tiebreaks for cash prizes or Grand Prix points. Cash prizes and GP points will be
split evenly amongst tied finishing positions.
• Tiebreaker games will only be used to determine the winner of the tournament, winners of
medals, and qualifications.
• Tiebreaker time control will be game in 3 minutes with a 2-second increment starting at move 1.
• One game tiebreaker with random colours. If the game results in a draw, colours will be swapped,
and the players will play again until a decisive game.

NO FOOD is allowed in the booked spaces (room 143 and 134). Please use the tables and chairs throughout the shared spaces in the building for eating. If you are eating in the rooms, you will be disqualified from the tournament.

Tie Breakers and awards ASAP after Round 5
**Please note that this is a tentative schedule, and is subject to change**
**Players MUST show up before the opening ceremony to confirm your registration, or
you won’t be paired to play in the first round. If you are running late, you MUST let us know before the scheduled time for opening announcements.**
Byes: Up to two (2) half-point byes are available, but must be requested before the tournament
begins, during registration or via email at

**Please note that round 5 byes are worth ZERO points. They will NOT give you any points.**
Forced byes: If there is an odd number of players in a round, one player, determined by the pairing system, will be getting a FULL POINT forced bye. This does not count towards the 2 half-point byes.
Forfeits: Any player who doesn’t show up within the first hour of the beginning of the round will be forfeited for the round unless they have requested a “bye” beforehand. All forfeited games will be treated as a loss, resulting in getting a score of 0 for the round, as well as losing rating points.
