The Flotsam Flotilla returns to clean the waterways of Halifax County, VA!
Join us on Saturday, September 20, as we paddle and hike the Banister River removing litter, tires, and debris that threaten the natural beauty of the Banister River. Volunteers will also help protect historically significant sites along the river corridor, ensuring that future generations can experience both the natural beauty and cultural heritage of this waterway. We'll focus on a 6.2 mile stretch of the river from King's Bridge Landing to Highway 360 at Terry's Bridge Road.
Volunteers can participate by canoeing or kayaking the river (watercraft not supplied), collecting trash on the Banister's riverbanks in public areas, or sorting litter recovered during the event for analysis.
We'd like to thank our partners at the Virginia Department of Transportation for supplying trash bags, Dan River Basin Association for supplying Trash Grabbers, and the Army Corps of Engineers. We'd also like to thank volunteers from Staunton River State Park, Halifax County Public Libraries, and the Halifax County Historical Society.
