About the event

Taking Your Space - A Workshop in Authenticity and Personal Ownership in Performance
This workshop has been made possible with funding support from the Ontario Arts Council and the Ontario Government.

In a world full of expectations—how we should act, speak, feel—we often find our true artistic voice buried beneath layers of judgment and social conditioning. Whether you're a musician, singer, dancer, or creative of any kind, these invisible pressures can restrict your ability to fully express yourself. In any kind of art, especially folk traditions rooted in storytelling and soul, we need room to be real.

Taking Your Space is a workshop designed to help you reclaim your creative freedom. Through guided exercises and reflective practices, you’ll learn how to let go of internalized rules, protect your emotional and spiritual space, and step into performances with greater authenticity and ownership.

This is a space to be too much, too emotional, too real—because producing powerful, honest art requires connection to your full self. Come ready to explore, express, and take up the space your art deserves.

Sandra Bouza is a Toronto-based Roots Soul artist known for her powerful voice and dynamic performances, blending influences from her Canadian and Spanish heritage.

Sandra has been a prolific songwriter since the beginning of her career. “I’m proud of my songs. They speak to my story,” she says. Keen to honour her own songs, Sandra returned to Toronto, and started building her career. Within a year of her return, she won the Toronto Blues Talent Search and came in second in the Toronto Soul Slam. Newly committed to her own music, she then connected with Toronto based producer; Hill Kourkoutis, who produced her 2018 EP ‘Three Years’ and then her first LP 'Falling Away From Me' released in 2019, one month before Covid shut down the world.

Everything came together for Sandra during an artist’s residence on Halls Island in the Haliburton Highlands where she wrote most of the material for her latest album, ’A Sound in the Dark'. ’Everyone who’s heard her sing knows that Sandra’s always been a powerful vocalist and a compelling songwriter, but with the new recording, she has truly found her own voice, and the promise of her earlier work has come to full fruition.

“This record is truly me - more me than I have ever been able to give up to this point. With the new songs, I share more of myself than I have ever been able to do before.”

Sandra and her band will be performing in the evening at the Legion. Opener - Lizzy Clarke.
