Speaker
Richard Gallion's journey commenced during
his college years, when a basketball injury
led to the discovery of his latent talents.
After sustaining a broken wrist that hindered
his aspiration of becoming a professional
athlete, he was presented with the
opportunity to serve as a runway model for
Ebony and JET magazine's Fashion Fair.
During his tours and intermissions between
shows, he developed a profound passion for
writing.
Gallion's acting career began under the
mentorship of playwright John Ruffin, where
he starred in the GMC-televised film “Love
Me or Leave Me,” alongside notable actors
such as Clifton Powell, Elise Neal, Carl
Payne, Terri J. Vaughn, and the
distinguished Shirley Murdock. His
dedication and commitment to discipline and
consistency facilitated his securing roles in
prominent productions, including FOX’s
APB, Transformers 4, USA’s Sirens, and
FOX’s Empire, directed by Lee Daniels and
featuring Taraji P. Henson and Terrence
Howard. His filmography also includes
significant roles in “Black Coffee,” screened
in AMC Theaters, “Chicago PD” on NBC 5,
and the film “Halfway,” featuring Quinton
Aaron. Additionally, Gallion served as a
principal actor in the films “Soul Sessions” by
Vincent Gaftney and “Nothing Like
Thanksgiving,” directed by Mark Harris. His
other notable projects include “Black
Butterfly,” available at various retail and
rental platforms, and “The Good Life.”
To date, Mr. Gallion has written, directed,
and produced five highly acclaimed stage
productions and has ghostwritten and
directed numerous other stage plays,
television series, and films. His national
recognition has generated a strong demand
for his scripts and performances; however,
he remains committed to nurturing the
burgeoning theater scene in Chicago. His
recent plays, “A Fall from Royalty” and
“When Silence Screams,” have achieved
considerable acclaim due to their
engagement with historical contexts and
real-life situations that profoundly affect
today’s youth. These works address critical
issues such as substance abuse, violence,
the foster care system, and mortality.
