ABOUT THE ARTIST:
You might know Mel as your local bartender but she’s lived a lot of other lives as a creative person as well. Hailing from Chicago originally Mel attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for undergraduate studies where she learned about conceptual art history and practice ranging from sound and video, to painting and drawing, to fiber art and sculpture where she found her home. She spent a time making, showing and selling sculptures and small installations using a wide range of materials manipulated by the hand in various ways. She enjoys exploring materials and solving the puzzle of how to use them to express ideas and tell stories.
She attended artist residencies at Haystack Mountain School of Craft, Harold Arts, Penland School of Craft, The Vermont Studio Center, and most recently the John C. Campbell School of Crafts for a two-week shaker broom intensive.
Whether sewing, making books or brooms, painting or drawing, thinking, planning, cooking, or hosting events Mel loves to explore, investigate, and envision! She hopes build community and endlessly collaborate! Say tuned for some exciting new projects soon!
