Roberta Hawkins and Amy Kipp present Digital Methodologies of Care in Social Media Research as part of the IF.. Series in THINC Lab.
"Digital methodologies of care in social media research"Description: Across disciplines researchers are using social media platforms like Instagram, Tiktok, and Facebook to conduct their research. The use of social media in research raises new practical, methodological, and ethical considerations that critical scholars need to pay attention to.
Join the Reimagining Care Research Cluster for an interactive conversation exploring some of these ethical challenges through a feminist lens. Sharing examples from past research projects, this conversation will introduce feminist care ethics as an approach that can help researchers navigate these ethical challenges and realize the possibilities of doing social media research in a more care-filled way.
Bios: Dr. Roberta Hawkins and Dr. Amy Kipp are co-leads of the Reimagining Care Research Cluster with the Live Work Well Research Centre at the University of Guelph. Through their shared work on care, they explore care in digital worlds; feminist ethics of care in academia; and community care and social change. Dr. Hawkins is a feminist geographer and Professor in the Department of Geography, Environment, and Geomatics, and Dr. Kipp, is a postdoctoral research fellow with the Community Engaged Scholarship Institute.
