Part 1 – Biomechanics: Avoiding Tree Failure
Led by Matt Follett, an experienced climber and emerging academic, this session dives into the biomechanics of trees. Learn how trees grow, why they fail, and strategies to manage and reduce risk. Gain practical, real-world knowledge to improve tree health, enhance climbing safety, and raise industry standards.

Part 2 – Embracing Failure for Habitat
Alex Duszczyszyn, Conservation Technician with the Nature Conservancy of Canada, will explore the ecological value of tree failure. Understand how fallen and damaged trees provide critical habitats, support biodiversity, and contribute to resilient forest ecosystems.
