Being a freelance cultural worker means committing to a complicated relationship to money โ which is often complicated, elusive, and frustrating. The amounts offered can be misleading, and it can be difficult to understand the true value of your work. In this lecture, Zoรซ Dankert shares personal and humorous strategies for better understanding the value of her income. She introduces her own โgolden standardsโ: ways to make compensation tangible, for example, โthis fee equals 12 glasses of white wine.โ She discusses what it means to work for free, to be consistently underpaid, and how she navigates between solidarity and precarity while learning to say no.
After the lecture, visitors are invited to translate fees into tangible or edible forms and create their own personal golden standards.
