On Thursday, September 4, 2025, the Stewart Gallery in the Grinnell Area Arts Center will welcome a new exhibit titled “A Breath of Line, A Body of Color” featuring work by John Weaver.
Weaver grew up on a farm near Gilman, Iowa, where an early connection to nature and quietness nurtured his creative instincts. John’s pen and ink work is rooted in biomorphic art—inspired by natural forms, living structures, and unseen processes, but his greatest teachers have been children. Over a lifetime career in U.S. and international education, he has watched young artists create with immediacy, trust, and freedom—qualities he tries to recover in his own work. John now splits his time between Iowa and the Netherlands.
The opening reception will be Thursday, September 4, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm with an artist talk at 6:00 pm. The exhibit will run from September 4 - 27, 2025.
Stewart Gallery is located in the Grinnell Arts Center at 926 Broad Street, Grinnell, Iowa. Regular open hours are Tuesdays – Fridays, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Saturdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. There is no charge for admission.
