Course information: The Cowboy Challenge is a western-based timed obstacle course that will involve 1 horse and 1 rider at a time. There will be 4 classes on event day: Youth (12 and under), Junior (13-17), Novice, and Advanced. For participants 18 and over, you will have the choice to enter in either the Novice or Advanced class which vary in both difficulty and number of obstacles.
Each rider will receive a time for their run and a flagger will be on the course to assist them in time spent on each obstacle (i.e. if there is too much time spent attempting an obstacle the rider will be notified so they can move on.) The course is designed so that a rider will NOT be disqualified for failing to complete an obstacle; however, there will be a lesser time penalty for non-completion of an obstacle and a greater time penalty for refusal to attempt an obstacle.
A final course map for each class will be released on event day and all participants will be taken through the course before their class begins so everyone has a complete understanding of obstacle order and layout. While we unfortunately cannot release individual obstacle details ahead of time, we do understand that there may be some questions on what riders will be asked to do with their horses.
Participants in the youth and junior class should be comfortable unbridling and bridling their horse, backing up, and loading their horse onto a trailer. The obstacles will include (but are not limited to) these skills. We want this to be a fun, interactive exercise focused on learning new skills and building confidence. Youth riders are welcome to be led on horseback through the course but will not be eligible for placing.
Participants in novice and advanced divisions should be comfortable moving different objects on horseback, sorting live cattle, roping, jumping, and maneuvering through water and rough terrain. The obstacles will include (but are not limited to) these skills.
On-site registration opens at 8AM on event day. The Youth class begins at 10AM and will be immediately followed by the Junior class. There will be a 30 minute break between the Junior and Novice Class.
Buckles/custom tack prizes will be awarded to all course winners as well as additional prizes for 2nd and 3rd place. Prize money will be divided 50% to first, 30% to second, and 20% to third place in the novice and advanced divisions. 50% of entry money will be added back in the novice and advanced divisions.
Please note: while an individual person may sign up for more than one class, the same horse CANNOT be used more than once in the same class or in a different class (i.e. a rider may participate in both the novice and advanced classes but will need different mounts.)
A full lunch will be available on site and we have several wonderful vendors coming out again to set up course-side! Keep an eye out for vendor and sponsor shoutouts leading up to event day. Professional photos will be available for purchase afterward of both action shots on the course and portraits around the property.
