About the event

Unwrapped Gifts: Sensory Worship
With so many "gift guides" circulating (think The Year's Best Gifts for Kids, What to Buy Every Person on Your List...), might we find the best gift guide within Jesus' stories and teachings?

An excerpt from Matthew 11:2-11
"When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, 'Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?' Jesus answered them, 'Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, those with a skin disease are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.'”

Assistant Professor of New Testament at The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago Karri Alldredge writes:

"John’s question—'Are you the one…?'—resonates in our present time. As ICE raids, detention centers, and mass deportations terrorize communities, many are asking: What is the good news for our times? How is God delivering God’s people in these fear-filled times? Such realities and questions invite us to consider how we, as communities of faith, can respond. How might we be present with those seeking the Messiah in the midst of incarceration, family separations, and uncertainty? Jesus’ response to John offers clues to how we might respond..."

Professor Alldrege asks, "How are *we* the one?"

Salvage Gardeners, might we be the gifts our world needs most? Join us for sensory worship as we celebrate the unwrapped gifts we experience now and throughout the year.

What is sensory worship? We use a structured order of service with PECS (picture exchange communication) and there's room for flexibility. We welcome silence and noise, stillness and movement. Our gathering is family friendly and our families are wonderfully unique. Sensory worship is interactive, but no pressure; do what works for you. It's really something you have to experience to understand. Come and see what we're doing. Email TWVsaXNzYSB8IHNhbHZhZ2VnYXJkZW4gISBvcmc= with questions or visit salvagegarden.org for even more about sensory worship and the mission and work of Salvage Garden.

Settle into a chair or slide onto a bean bag and make music (and sometimes a mess!) with us.

We meet on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in the Community Center at First Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Look for Salvage Garden yard signs at Entrance B. Entrance B is near a small playground. Greeters will open the door and doors will be locked after 10:15 a.m.
