The City’s Planning Department will hold a drop-in session for the new Greensboro Historic District Program Manual and Design Standards from 1-7 pm on Tuesday, September 9, in the Nussbaum Room at the Central Library, 219 N. Church St. These updated standards aim to protect the special character of Greensboro’s locally designated historic districts, College Hill, Dunleath, and Fisher Park.
City staff, the Greensboro Historic Preservation Commission, and Samantha Stewart of Gate City Preservation, will be onsite to explain, address questions, and receive feedback on the changes. Residents may also pick up copies of the new Certificate of Appropriateness application.
This marks the first time since 2003 that the standards have been substantively updated. The changes ensure the manual remains clear and user-friendly, as well as aligning with current best practices in preservation science, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
Review the updated program manual draft at www.greensboro-nc.gov/HDStandardsUpdate. Final edits will be made with consideration of drop-in session feedback. The new program manual and design standards are expected to be adopted this fall.
