Audition for five unpaid male roles open to various ages and body types in The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me by David Drake are Friday, September 19th, at 7 pm, Sunday, September 21st, at 2 pm, and Monday, September 22nd, at 7 pm.
The audition location is 400 W Radiance Drive, Greensboro, NC. Please use the lower, side entrance across from the parking lot. We will be in the first room on the left as you enter the lower level.
Drake’s semi-autobiographical play was originally a one-man show but has been reconfigured for a cast of five men working as a kind of Greek chorus. The text is a coming-of-age tale, tracing one man’s development from childhood during the closeted years just before the 1969 Stonewall Riots through the various rituals of adult gay life — including working out, cruising the bars, and holding AIDS vigils — into an imaginary utopian future.
The performance will incorporate elements of dance and physical intimacy, and the script features strong language, including homophobic slurs.
Along with discussing conflicts at the audition, please be prepared to discuss your dancing skills and the levels of male-male physical intimacy with which you are comfortable. You may prepare a monologue for the audition, but we will also have sides available for cold readings. We will not be testing dance skills or comfort with physical intimacy at the auditions.
Rehearsals start with a Zoom read-through the week of September 22nd. We will begin choreography rehearsals on Sunday, September 28th. Until Tech week, we will rehearse weeknight evenings except Tuesdays from 7 to 10 pm and Sundays from 2 to 5 pm. Performance dates are November 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd at 8:00 pm, and November 16th and 23rd at 3:00 pm. With a few exceptions, these will all be full-cast rehearsals.
