Speaker Series: Sands Hall – The Scandal Behind Angle of Repose

Event description Step into history at North Star House for an extraordinary Speaker Series event with Sands Hall, renowned author, playwright, and director.

Join us on Sunday, September 28th at 2pm where Sands will uncover the fascinating scandal surrounding Wallace Stegner's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Angle of Repose, and its connection to the life and writings of Mary Hallock Foote, whose legacy is deeply intertwined with our history.

Mary Hallock Foote’s work and life, much of which unfolded right here in Nevada County, inspired Stegner’s celebrated novel. Sands Hall will guide us through the controversy, exploring the ethical and literary implications of Stegner’s extensive use of Foote’s words and experiences.

This event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on our local heritage and its influence on American literature, all within the historic setting of North Star House.
