Stop by on Sunday, from 1–3:00 pm to experience "Interpretation Not Included," a bold gallery exhibit featuring the work of Nicky Robie. Much like a product that doesn't come with batteries, this exhibit invites visitors to bring their own energy, perspective, and meaning to the work.
This collection of abstract pieces resists fixed interpretation, allowing color, composition, mood, and personal experience to shape what you see and feel. The artwork draws you in before any clear narrative forms—leaving space for curiosity, conversation, and your own unique take.
Meet the Artist:
Nicky Robie was born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium, and later moved to the U.S. to study languages, earning a PhD in Spanish Language and Literature from The Ohio State University. Her path to abstract art began while working in the Clintonville studio of the late Japanese abstract artist Yoshiaki Yoshinari.
In 2019, Nicky became a resident artist at High Road Gallery and Studios in Worthington, where she regularly participates in group exhibitions. Largely self-taught, she works intuitively in abstract mixed media and oil painting, creating pieces that range from fully non-representational to semi-abstract.
Her work is known for bold color, heavy palette-knife texture, layered surfaces, and collage elements. Collected across Ohio, Florida, Europe, and Japan, her paintings invite viewers into an open-ended experience shaped by personal perception. Nicky's studio is open to the public, and she enjoys engaging with visitors whose interpretations often become part of the work's story. She is currently collaborating with a local poet on a book pairing abstract imagery with words.
