On the 100th anniversary of Lessons & Carols from King’s College, Cambridge, Timothy Day wrote of this notable event: “The sound of King’s College Choir can be aptly described as simply natural, unforced, no sense of strain even in the fortes, the tuning immaculate where the singing speaks with an unearthly silvery glitter….Today, just as when the first Lessons and Carols was sung in 1918, the choir is not striving to impress an audience.
Rather they are attempting to voice the thoughts and hopes and aspirations of a community of listeners, losing themselves and sometimes, perhaps, finding themselves, in music-making of unforgettable beauty and truth.”
This is the standard to which all choirs and congregations should strive in our singing…to lose ourselves and to find God.
May this year’s presentation of Nine Lessons & Carolsfor Christmas by the Grand Rapids Choir of Men & Boys strive to help us all, singers and listeners alike, do just this.
Many of your favorite carols will return along with a few new thrilling surprises.
No tickets required, a free will offering will be taken.
Note: Thank you once again for your understanding that due to the often quiet, reflective nature of our choir’s programming, infants and young children can create distractions for those attending.
