About the event

High Elevation Wine Dinner Series: France
Join us Thursday, September 11, at 6:30pm for our first wine dinner of the fall. Each of our dinners this season will focus on wines produced at higher elevation, and kicking off this series is France. Ben Gillette, importer for Avanelle Wine Company, will be joining us, and will walk you through five wines, thoughtfully paired with a multi-course menu prepared by Chef Billy Wood.

Avanelle Wine Company is a San Francisco-based importer and distributor of artisan, family wines from France and Spain, with an emphasis on organic and biodynamic farming practices. Avanelle directly imports their own wines from throughout France, building on a legacy of distinctive, regionally driven selections from throughout the country. With over 15 years of experience, founder, JJ Clifton, brings unparalleled expertise and a deep commitment to quality. Avanelle's longstanding relationships with producers are at the heart of what they do.

First Course: Tomato Amuse-Bouche
Fresh tomato, burrata, basil, plum jam, toasted baguette
Wine Pairing: Ligier Cremant du Jura Brut Rose

Second Course: Scallop Crudo
Fresh sea scallop, cantaloupe broth, serrano pepper, salmon roe
Wine Pairing: Chevallier-Bernard Roussette de Savoie "Marestel"

Third Course: Glazed Pork Loin
Cherry-glazed, bacon-wrapped pork loin, citrus and pear ratatouille
Wine Pairing: Domaine Petit Aout "La Memoire Nerve"

Fourth Course: Pate en Croute
Pork pate, foie gras, black truffle, pastry crust, fresh fig, plum, chevre, micro greens
Wine Pairing: Anne Sophie-Jean Francois Quenard Mondeuse "Elisa"

Fifth Course: Leg of Lamb
Red wine-sous vide leg of lamb, Spanish cassoulet
Wine Pairing: Ilarria Irouleguy Rouge

Sixth Course: Poached Pear
Brie mousse-stuffed, red-wine poached pear, toasted black walnut
