About the event

Local Authors Reading
Join us for a cozy evening of readings of new work by local authors.

The event features Allee Mead, Roxanne Moore, and Kelly King. It is an eclectic grouping: Allee has written a science fiction novel, Roxanne a memoir, and Kelly a fiction novel about the struggles teachers and students endure in a middle school today.

Each reading will be followed by a Q&A, as well as a book signing at the end of the event.

Event is free. Cocoa and Coffee are extra.

A bit about the authors and their books:

Allee Mead is a writer originally from Hazen, ND. She is a UND alumna and employee who also participates in community theater, bowling, and bar trivia. Isaac is her first novella.

Synopsis:
Isaac is set in a future where people can buy androids to serve as caregivers for those with disabilities or health conditions requiring 24-hour care. Eleanor travels home after her father passes away and discovers that he had one of these caregiver robots. Eleanor takes the care-bot home to help with her loneliness. Her story is braided with the story of how her fathers, John and Javi, met and fell in love.

Roxanne Moore lives in Grand Forks and has two children. She has been active in PFLAG and wrote this memoir to share her experiences with other families of transgendered children.

Synopsis: "Out of the Blue' is a mother's story of her family's transformation after learning their daughter wanted to become their son. Part study on GLBT social issues, part revelation of the personal journey toward accepting her transgender child, the author suggests that parents who say, 'I just want my child to be happy!" might not realize what that really means.

Kelly King, a.k.a. "Kween" - grew up in Grand Forks, ND and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in EGF, MN. This is her second book this year; The True Story was published in January 2025. King is currently finishing up her Bachelor's Degree at Moorhead State University while working on her third novel.

Synopsis:
At first, it’s just another school year at Haven Ridge Middle School. The new resource officer is just filling in. A rookie teacher is just trying to survive her first semester. A few students are just trying to stay out of trouble, blend in, keep secrets, or be someone new.

Told through the intersecting lives of students, teachers, and families, The Reality That We Live In is a powerful portrait of the moments before everything changes. It’s about the little things; casual cruelty, missed chances, invisible pressure, and how they build up until something breaks.

Books will be available for purchase, and the authors will be on hand to answer questions following their readings.

This event is free and open to the public.
