About the event

Ranching & Roping
Learn why Goliad is considered the Birthplace of Texas Ranching and try your hand at roping!

From having Texas' first major cattle ranch to supplying the first large cattle drive out of Texas, Mission Espiritu Santo has played a big role in Texas ranching. Ranching in the New World brought new challenges, with wild longhorn cattle and a harsh, thorny prairie. New techniques were learned, practiced, and perfected at the mission by Native Americans, who became some of the first "vaqueros", or cowboys, in Texas. Learn some of those techniques and the interesting history of Texas ranching at the mission that was center to it all!

Program takes place on mission grounds.

Program is free with park entrance ($4 per person, free for children 12 & under)
