Are you ready to give your clothes a second life and embrace sustainable fashion?
Join our beginner-friendly hand-sewing workshop, designed for anyone over the age of 10, to learn practical skills that will help you repair, alter, and upcycle your favourite clothes or textiles.
This event proudly supports Sustainable Fashion Week by empowering you to reduce textile waste and keep your beloved items in use longer! This is a free workshop taught by the brilliant Make Do and Mend volunteers from Cranleigh Repair Cafe.
What You'll Learn to Do (and Do Yourself!): Our focus is on teaching you essential skills so you can repair your own clothes. You'll gain hands-on experience with core hand-sewing techniques, including hemming, taking in, taking out, making patches, sewing on a button, darning a hole and repairing seams.
Bring Your Own Project! The best way to learn is by doing! Please bring an item of clothing or a textile that needs a repair, alteration, or needs to be upcycled. Our instructors will guide you step-by-step through fixing your chosen item. Please let us know if advance what you are going to bring so we can have some idea of our intentions. We do have some supplies, but it is a good idea to bring supplies you might need e.g.: extra fabric, zips, buttons, ribbons or trimmings.
What We Provide: We'll supply basic sewing kits including needles, thread, scissors, thimbles, and practice fabric scraps.
