DEXYS MIDNIGHT RUNNERS – Don’t Stand Me Down
Thursday 11th September
Glossop Labour Club, 8-11pm
FREE ADMISSION
We’re back at Glossop Labour Club on Thursday 11 September when we’ll be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Don’t Stand Me Down, Dexys Midnight Runners’ bold and uncompromising third album – played on vinyl and in full.
After the huge success of Geno and Come On Eileen, nobody expected what came next: an album of sprawling songs, Kevin Rowland and bandmate Billy Adams talking throughout, and not a hit single in sight! Despite being critically well received, the album was a commercial flop and marked the end of the Dexys for over 20 years.
But time has been kind. Now hailed as Kevin Rowland’s masterpiece, Don’t Stand Me Down has grown into a cult classic – an album that was out of step in 1985 but resonates more than ever today.
Record club regular Steve McNamee will warm us up with gems from the Dexys catalogue before taking us into his all-time favourite album.
Join us for a night of rediscovery, deep cuts, and one of pop’s most daring records.
Doors 8pm, music starts at 8.30. See you there!
