In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Hudson River School, Becoming the Landscape is more than a workshop series—it’s a creative and contemplative journey through place, presence, and personal expression. This first session of the series is free, the next session is scheduled for Oct 16.
Session 1: The Light Within The Land (free intro session) September 18th
We begin by entering the ethos of the Hudson River School, exploring how light—both on canvas and within—becomes a guide, a teacher, and a beginning. Guided by the spirit of artists like Thomas Cole, Frederic Church, and Albert Bierstadt—whose luminous work lives within The Hyde’s own collection—this series invites participants to reimagine the landscape not only as something to admire, but as something to embody.
Participants will engage in hands-on artmaking using a variety of materials—paint, collage, sketching, and layering techniques—not just writing.
No prior art background is needed—just a willingness to be present, to create, and to connect with the landscape in new and meaningful ways.
