BILLY AND TINA'S ZOO PROTEST
SUNDAY, Dec 7 from 10 to noon!
The elephants Billy and Tina are gone from the Los Angeles Zoo, treacherously betrayed and sent to another zoo instead of to a sanctuary which would have better met their needs for vastly more space as well as autonomy. We continue to protest the zoo, although Billy and Tina's fate now seems to no longer be under zoo director Denise Verret's control.
So why are we there? According to the zoo there are still approximately 1700 animals being held behind its iron gates. A few are species involved in wildlife trafficking rescues and the zoo helps maintain the California condor population. Good. But most are there purely for entertainment - exhibition and breeding for other zoos. We advocate for them and we do so in honor of Billy and Tina hence the name Billy and Tina's Zoo Protests. Elephants never forget and neither will we.
Join us for our next day protest SUNDAY, Dec 7 from 10 to 12 noon / LA Zoo - 5333 Zoo Drive. Free parking.
Whether you want to hold a sign, chant, do speakouts, take photos and videos, bang a drum, hand out flyers or talk to zoo goers, we have a place for you with our team. The animals need you! Flyers and posters are provided but we welcome handmade ones as well! YES, to megaphones, NO to talking to cops.
