Virginia Veterinary Centers’ Annual Symposium Returns This Fall!

About this Event

After an action-packed year, we are still committed to supporting our referral community through continuing education. We’re pleased to offer this CE opportunity to our local DVMs before year’s end. Thanks to the support from our local and commercial vendor partners at , , Trupanion, and Pet Memorial Cemeteries, once again, the Virginia Veterinary Centers' and welcome you to the Richmond Marriott Short Pump Conference Center for our Annual Symposium!

Special Note: VVC Fredericksburg will be hosting Support Staff CE, dedicated to the LVTs in our community, on September 20–21. You can learn more here



Meet the speakers:

Dr. Ann Marie Picone DVM, DACVIM, will present on Canine Lymphoma

  • This talk will focus on the different forms of canine lymphoma and treatment options. Both large cell lymphoma management as well as diagnosis and treatment of indolent lymphomas will be discussed. Participants will gain knowledge in staging, immunophenotyping, molecular diagnostics, and different chemotherapy protocols.

Dr. Allison Fuchs DVM, MS, DACVO will present, "A Focus on Feline Ophthalmology"

  • This talk will focus on a review of feline ocular disease, common diseases to recognize, diagnostics and treatment plan.

Dr. Michael Schettler DVM, MS, DACVR will present on, "The Diagnostic Imaging of Feline Cardiomyopathies"

  • This talk will include a review of normal feline cardiovascular imaging and anatomy. It will also discuss common feline cardiomyopathies and their imaging features, focusing primarily on thoracic radiography and echocardiography.

Dr. Martin Young MS, DVM, DACVIM will present on Seizure Maintenance

  • This talk will cover Medical Management, monitoring, and reduce the frequency, duration, and severity of the seizures.

Dr. Picone completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Temple University in Philadelphia and completed a graduate certificate in Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology at Villanova University. She relocated to the Caribbean to attend veterinary school and graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2019. Dr. Picone completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center outside Milwaukee before completing an oncology clinical trials internship and medical oncology residency program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After many long and cold Wisconsin winters, Dr. Picone is excited to call Richmond her new home and looks forward to caring for pets and clients in the area.

Dr. Allison Fuchs grew up in New Jersey prior to earning her DVM degree from Oklahoma State University. She then completed a small animal rotating internship at BluePearl Atlanta. Dr. Fuchs returned to the Midwest for a combined Master of Science and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri. She enjoys all aspects of comparative ophthalmology, especially ophthalmic manifestation of systemic disease and microsurgery. Outside of work, she enjoys horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, and baking.

Dr. Schettler is originally from Nebraska, but earned his veterinary degree from Kansas State University in 2019. After graduation, he completed a rotating internship at Kansas State followed by a specialty internship in Diagnostic Imaging at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston. He then went on to earn a master's degree and complete his residency training in diagnostic imaging at Auburn University. Dr. Schettler has special interests in musculoskeletal and abdominal ultrasound, neuroimaging, and minimally invasive image-guided procedures, but enjoys all aspects of radiology. When not at work, Dr. Schettler loves to travel and explore new places, as well as go hiking with his dogs, Daisy and Hamilton.

Dr. Young received a Master of Science degree in Anatomy and Neurobiology from Colorado State University where he also received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. He spent the first few years out of school working in general practice. In 2007, Dr. Young completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at South Paws Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center before being accepted as the first resident into the BVNS residency program in July of 2008. Dr. Young has a strong interest in neurosurgical oncology and has been involved in several studies, data collection for the NIH, and presented at several human conferences and grand rounds at Mt. Sinai.
