Bundle up and join us for a peaceful winter walk as we explore the James River State Park in search of its seasonal birdlife! Winter offers a unique opportunity to spot hardy year-round residents and migratory visitors against the quiet beauty of bare trees and crisp skies. Along the way, you’ll learn about these unique species, the ecosystems that support them, and discover helpful tools, like mobile apps and field guides, for identifying birds on your own. This short, approximately 1.25-mile hike is a perfect introduction to the joy of birdwatching and the more than 100 species that call the park home.
Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just curious about the feathered friends in your backyard, this guided hike will help you identify species, learn fun bird facts, and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Bring your binoculars, if you have them, to get a closer look at these feathered friends!
Please meet at Green Hill Pond. Suitable for all ages. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and bring a water bottle with you. Parks are for everyone, please let us know if you need special accommodation.
