Finding Gettysburg: Anna Deavere Smith on Roots, Storytelling, and the Power of Place

Join acclaimed playwright, actress, and educator Anna Deavere Smith for a powerful conversation about her journey to uncover her Gettysburg roots, the inspiration behind her new play about her great-great grandfather, Basil Biggs, and the importance of preserving untold stories. In this special program, Smith will share her reflections on heritage, identity, and the role of the arts in shaping our understanding of the past. The evening will also highlight the campaign to create Gettysburg’s new Black History Museum at the historic Jack & Julia Hopkins House. This program is part of Gettysburg History’s Annual Meeting and will include complimentary dinner and drinks.
