Ikebana Flower Arranging and Meditative Journaling

Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, is more than just a visual beauty. It's a meditative and mindful process that fosters a deep connection with nature and the present moment. Rooted in simplicity, balance, and intentionality, Ikebana encourages stillness and reflection, making it a powerful tool for enhancing mental wellbeing. Engaging in Ikebana can reduce stress, promote focus, and cultivate inner peace.

The quiet, contemplative experience of Ikebana pairs naturally with meditative journaling, which can serve as a way to process thoughts, note feelings evoked by the process, and deepen the personal insights gained.

Together, these practices support mindfulness, creativity, and a grounded sense of calm, offering a holistic approach to emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

In this Workshop

During this hands-on workshop, you will be guided through Ikebana concepts, and how to intuitively and intentionally craft your own personalised flower arrangement, using natural blooms especially sized to fit within one of our unique Flowwa Pens.

As you craft and gently place each flower inside your own Flowwa Pen, you’ll be guided to explore the emotions and memories that each piece evokes. We will together cultivate a space of gentle self-expression and open-minded reflection, where each flower serves as a symbolic reflection of the wonders of life.

Then with your personalised Flowwa Pen containing your uniquely crafted flower arrangement, we’ll explore and undertake together some meditative journaling. During this practice, we will focus on themes of self-identity, inner growth, and emotional release.

What’s Included

  • All materials to make your own personalised Ikebana flower arrangement, and the Flowwa Pen it will be housed within.
  • Safe, nurturing space for self-expression

About Flowwa, the Not-For-Profit Arts Organisation for social change:

Flowwa is a survivor-led, Not-For-Profit organisation that runs art x wellness workshops, nature retreats and peer-support for violence survivors. Flowwa is rooted in our love for flowers and the specific Japanese belief about nature - that humans are equal residents of this planet alongside all living things. It's in our name "Flow-wa" - 'Wa' in Japanese means 'Harmony' and 'Community'. Lastly, 'Wa' is the sound of amazement, joy, wonders and appreciation.

Like all kinds of flowers in nature, everyone's journeys of healing and growing is unique and everyone has an important role to play in our community. Survivors' stories give so much insights and drive to make the world safer, healthier and kinder.
