Roger was born in Portland, Oregon, during the Second World War. With a lifelong love for science and technology, he graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School and went on to study at Portland State University. In 1962, he married Alice Hirn, now his devoted wife of 63 years. Together they raised seven children while living in Oregon, Michigan, and Raleigh, North Carolina.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Alice, and their children: Leslie McGee, Nutritionist; Dale Roger McGee, MBA; Kevin McGee, Founder of Carolina Bushcraft and AI researcher; Christopher McGee, BA in Computer Science; Sarah McGee, PhD in Quantum Physics and MA Theology; Merrie Elizabeth McGee, MA Psychology; and Faith Julia (McGee) Waite, Founder and CEO of Julia’s Essentials Inc. His legacy of faith, love, and dedication to both family and community continues to live on through them.
Roger’s life reflects a remarkable journey of service—first through his work in nuclear power plant construction, quality control inspection, and computerizing utility systems, and through his calling as a minister of Christ for 49 years. Alongside his wife, Alice, he has faithfully led Church in the Woods for 21 years, a ministry “outside the walls” dedicated to reaching those in greatest need. Together, they have brought hope, compassion, and rescue to the poor and homeless, living out their faith in action.
