Long Island Legends: Ed Ryan
Ed Ryan is a multi-hyphenate entertainer who has wowed Long Island audiences for over 40 years with his soaring voice, quick wit and dynamic stage presence: a singer-songwriter – interpretive artist -- rock frontman –comedian – the list goes on and on, adding up to one of the most formidable performers on Long Island and beyond, as well as one of the most recognized and most respected by his fellow musicians.
Primarily a singer/songwriter on his own, Ed was also the lead vocalist and songwriter for original bands The Underdogs, Wide Awake, Rhino Caravan and The Ed Ryan Band.
Along a career that included theater, recordings and voice-over work, Ed spent 12 years as a stand-up comic, working his way up from emcee to headliner, as well as 14 years playing Irish music as a member of Gerry Finlay's Cara Band.
Ed currently works for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra as an on-call understudy for their tours, and is the energetic frontman for the David Bowie tribute band Bowie Station.
Stuart Markus adds that to see Ed Ryan perform is to really see how powerful, engaging, and witty a great performer can be. "Every year I hope he can be in the Harry Chapin tribute show, and am thrilled when he can. His performance of "WOLD" leaves jaws dropping throughout the audience -- and backstage."
