About the event

Foundation Conversations: William J. Hill Texas Artisans & Artists Archive
Showcasing Recently Discovered Art and Lithographs by the Galveston Company Clarke & Courts

About this Event

The William J. Hill Texas Artisans and Artists Archive is a freely accessible online database that documents the lives and work of craftspeople working in Texas before 1900. This talk will provide an introduction to the archive and highlight the historic Galveston decorative arts and related resources digitized by the Hill Archive team. Some of the materials discussed will include items in collections around the state, with a focus on a recently discovered collection of art and lithographs by the Galveston company Clarke & Courts, the most prolific lithographic company along the Gulf Coast in the 19th century.
