Join Master Gardener volunteers for a hands-on service project dedicated to preserving the historic landscape of the Matthews Living History Farm Museum.
This workshop focuses on the dormant season care required to maintain the health and productivity of heritage fruit plantings. Participants will gain practical experience while providing a vital service to this community landmark.
What You Will Do
The event begins promptly at 1:00 PM with a 45-minute demonstration covering tool safety and core pruning techniques.
Following instruction, participants will engage in supervised hands-on pruning of heirloom fruit trees, grape vines, and red currant and gooseberry bushes until the work is complete. You will learn to master the "3 D's" (removing Dead, Damaged, and Diseased wood) to improve plant structure and support future fruit yields.
