About the event

Waverley. plus support from The Shambles, The Watts and Clover.
waverley. fuse Americana tinged indie with moments of intensity to create a sound that is uniquely theirs. Folk-rooted songwriting and dynamic shifts makes the band's music both expansive and intimate, winning them plaudits from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, The Herald, and The Skinny.

A group of childhood friends from Edinburgh; collaboration is central to the band’s ethos with each member playing an integral role in their communal writing and self-recording sessions.

Their debut EP ‘It Makes An Emptiness Of A Crowded Place’, released in 2023 by Blackhall Records, includes the fiddle inspired guitar riffs of ‘Rest And Be Thankful’, and the euphoric crescendos of ‘Lowry Scene’, with comparisons being made to Wilco and Frightened Rabbit.

Never ones to sit still, waverley. are back with their new EP ‘Flail’. An eclectic and diverse collection of songs: ‘How It Starts’ sets the EP hurtling with ‘The Corner’ bridging the gap between folk and alternative before the EP climaxes with ‘Nettle’, which is wrapped in a beautiful string arrangement by Pete Harvey (Emma Pollock, King Creosote, Snow Patrol). ‘Flail’ further showcases the ambition that people have come to know of waverley.

"The Shambles" are a local borders band, who all originate from the town of Lauder and are delighted to be returning to MacArts. The Shambles have a nostalgic sound in their original indie rock songs that each have their own unique twist.

"The Watts" are an alternative band from Dunbar, Scotland. Influenced by bands like Dinosaur Jr, Pearl Jam, Husker Du, The Pixies, Portishead and others from the 1980s and 90s. With Blair Randall on Bass, Struan Bewsey on Guitar, Avery Dawson on Vocals and Sam Moffat on Drums the band have been involved in gigs and festivals around the borders of Scotland. Opening for bands like Forgetting the Future on their visits to the Borders. They have also spoken on East Coast FM and Radio Saltire promoting their debut single 'Forever Break'. You will not be disappointed when you see this band!"

Clover is a 4 piece band from Edinburgh consisting of friends that all have a deep rooted love for music and touring the world fronted by Declan. Now with a new line up, style, genre... and drummer, they are back and better then ever, playing festival slots in Manchester alongside some top names like Keyside and Pastel and performing headline shows in Edinburgh and Glasgow. This is a fast growing and exciting band that you won't want to miss.
