Widely regarded as one of the leading pianists of his generation, Brian Ganz is a laureate of the prestigious Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud and Queen Elisabeth of Belgium International Piano Competitions. He has performed as soloist with major orchestras including the St. Louis Symphony, St. Petersburg Philharmonic, Baltimore Symphony, National Symphony, and City of London Sinfonia, collaborating with renowned conductors such as Leonard Slatkin, Marin Alsop, Mstislav Rostropovich, Piotr Gajewski, and Yoel Levi.
In this much-anticipated recital, Mr. Ganz explores some of Fryderyk Chopin’s most sublime late works, composed during the final burst of his creative life before illness took its toll. Highlights of the evening include the luminous Barcarolle in F-sharp Major, Op. 60—often hailed as Chopin’s greatest single work—as well as the delicate Berceuse, Op. 57, the expressive Nocturnes, Op. 62, and the recently discovered Waltz in A Minor, among other gems. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the poetry and power of Chopin, brought to life by one of his most passionate interpreters.
The Washington Post wrote, “One comes away from a recital by pianist Brian Ganz not only exhilarated by the power of the performance but also moved by his search for artistic truth.” For many years, Mr. Ganz has made it his mission to join vivid music-making with warmth and intimacy onstage, producing a new kind of listening experience in which great works come to life with authentic emotional power. As one of Belgium’s leading newspapers, La Libre Belgique, put it: “We don’t have the words to speak of this fabulous musician who lives music with a generous urgency and brings his public into a state of intense joy.”
