Join Alachua County Forever, Alachua Conservation Trust and Conservation Burial, Inc., for a conservation cemetery tour at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery (7204 SE County Road 234, Gainesville) on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and long pants, bring water, bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat.
Directions: The physical address is for Prairie Creek Lodge. Please stay on County Road 234 until you reach the entrance. Google Maps will try to direct you onto a private residential road. When you turn off CR 234 into the driveway, keep right at the fork and go down Cemetery Lane for half a mile until you reach the cemetery's kiosk. You can park in the designated area on the left side of the road.
Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery is a 94-acre natural burial ground located within the larger Prairie Creek Preserve. It is one of only a handful of conservation burial grounds in the United States. Everything used in the natural burial process is biodegradable, and habitat restoration activities are an ongoing part of the land management.
“2025 marks the 25th Anniversary of the creation of Alachua County Forever, the county’s land conservation program,” said Alachua County Environmental Program Manager Andi Christman. “We’re excited to be offering a series of field trips and events this fall in preparation for our anniversary celebration in December. Come learn about these amazing lands you have protected.”
