A special book signing and release celebration is set for Thursday, Feb. 26th, at 6:00 p.m. at Black C Art Gallery (201 SE 2nd Place, Suite 111, Gainesville, FL 32601).
The evening will include light refreshments, a live reading from the novel by McShane, and an opportunity to purchase and have signed copies of the book. This intimate gathering promises an engaging literary experience in the heart of Gainesville's creative community.
In Black & White & Color is a richly evocative coming-of-age story that captures mid-20th-century America with vivid clarity. Set in Oak Park, Illinois—a storied Chicago suburb—the novel follows Daniel “Danny” Finnegan from his 1950s childhood through the transformative 1960s. McShane's masterful prose blends heartfelt nostalgia with sharp insight, exploring themes of identity, family, and cultural change in a narrative that resonates with depth and authenticity.
Shamrock McShane is a towering figure in American theater, film, and letters: a Shakespearean-trained actor renowned for commanding performances as Mercutio, Macbeth, Prospero, and Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman; an award-winning playwright; and a veteran educator with more than 30 years in Florida public schools. His screen work shines in acclaimed independent films by Tom Miller and Alex Davidowski, including his tour-de-force leading role in The Seven Sides of Shakespeare and his award-winning portrayal in Audience. McShane's dynamic range, theatrical intensity, and unflinching voice make him one of the most compelling storytellers of our time.
Hosted at the vibrant Black C Art Gallery, Ani Collier's shape-shifting sanctuary of creativity, the event highlights Gainesville's thriving arts scene while marking a significant milestone in McShane's distinguished career.
