Outdoor meta-educator Julie Biedrzycki will share the basics of weaving with wild-crafted, locally sourced vines: techniques that will empower you to craft a wide variety of useful and decorative products using foraged materials.
We'll begin this hands-on educational immersion by situating the practice of wild vine harvest in the ecology of our region. We will observe how Wisteria (Wisteria sinensis), Kudzu (Pueraria lobata), and other exotic vines grow onsite, exemplifying impacts and interactions you can then apply elsewhere. We will harvest Wisteria together, and then process both Wisteria and Kudzu for weaving.
Inspired by the diverse useful and decorative examples provided, students will apply the weaving techniques demonstrated to craft their own expressions.
