Saturday, June 21, 10:00am - 4:00pm and,
Sunday, June 22, 10:00am - 4:00pm
This workshop focuses on giving the participants an introduction into printmaking, drawing, and collage mediums which will then be used in the creation of a legacy scroll.
A legacy scroll is an artwork created to honor the life of a loved one who is dying or has died. Creating a legacy scroll is one way to creatively process and honor the legacy of your loved one, and can be done by the caretaker of the loved one, a family member, and sometimes even by the person who is dying as a way to honor their own time on this earth. There is no time like the present to consider the legacy of our own lives or the lives of those we love.
This workshop will include a short guided meditation centering around calling up imagery, sensations, smells, sounds, memories, feelings, textures that one associates with “their person.” (In INELDA end of life doula training, the person who is dying or who has died is referred to as “your person”). Some discussion and sharing (if desired) will follow of images/ ideas that came up during the meditation, and that could be used in the creation of the legacy scroll. Anyone who does not wish to share aloud might desire to journal or sketch instead. Printmaking and collage demonstrations will follow. You will be supported step by step in the creation of your legacy scroll throughout the weekend by INELDA trained end-of-life doula and artist Lisa Renz. This class is suitable for older teens and adults. All skill levels welcome.
