CCP Certification Program and Exam
CAPA has developed a state-specific, voluntary certification exam for California Paralegals.
To be eligible to sit for the CCP Certification Exam, you must first comply with:
1) specific program requirements as a California paralegal (CA Residency), and
2) these specific provisions of California’s Business and Professions Code:
BPC §6450 (a) – Paralegal definition – California Attorney Supervision (State Bar Number - Attorney)
BPC §6450 (c)(1) or (c)(2) or (c)(3) –Initial Legal Education Requirements (Certificates, Degree)
BPC §6450 (d) – Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (4.0 Legal Ethics/4.0 General Law Credit Hours every two years – self-reporting requirement, retained and certified to supervising attorney.

Be knowledgeable and read the current California Rules of Professional Conduct and CAPA's Ethics Guidelines.
CAPA does not require any national certification before submitting your online Application to sit for the California CCP Certification Exam.

CAPA MCLE Compliance Log should be completed for the current 2-year term (6/2023-6/2025), with completed Certificates of Attendance by a California-approved MCLE Provider.
Note: Exam eligibility is determined only after receipt of a completed application and all required supporting documents.
