Clay Shrines: Personal Narratives in Miniature Architecture
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
2 Classes Nov 6, 2025 - Nov 7, 2025
Join artist and educator Elsa Mora for a special hands-on workshop exploring the tradition of shrines in clay. Across cultures, shrines have been used to honor loved ones, celebrate traditions, and serve as personal spaces for reflection. In these two three-hour sessions, participants will create their own hand-built ceramic shrine using slab-building, carving, and decorative techniques.
Students will be guided step-by-step to design small architectural forms—such as niches and arches —that can hold symbolic objects or figures. Along the way, they will explore surface decoration methods like texture stamping, underglaze painting, and adding small sculptural details to personalize their shrine. Each participant will complete a unique clay piece that reflects their own story, memory, or inspiration.
All levels are welcome; no prior experience with ceramics is required. Finished shrines will be bisque-fired and clear-glazed after class, ready for pickup within weeks of final date.
$250 Per Person
