Talking Spaces 12

Participatory design acknowledges the value of diverse voices in the design process. As educators, architects, and academics advance their knowledge of learning space design and use, we need to ensure that advances in one field are shared across others. Consultation with stakeholders and effective collaboration across disciplines is the key to ensuring school facilities are responsive to the needs of inhabitants.

Talking Spaces 12 will explore how the needs of students, teachers, school leaders, parents/carers and others can be effectively integrated through participatory design processes. It will interrogate how partnerships between key stakeholders can elevate the potential design and use of new learning spaces. With many voices needed at the table, how do we ensure that new spaces are responsive to varied and changing educational needs?

In keeping with the tradition of past Talking Spaces events, insights being gathered by current research projects will provide the foundations for this conversation. These projects include: Innovative Learning Environments and Student Experience: The Evidence, and Designing Learning Spaces for Diversity, Inclusion, and Participation ARC Linkage project.
