Do we need Clean Energy and Degrowth?
The recent National Climate Risk Assessment is the latest of many expert reports that detail the catastrophic impacts we face unless we rapidly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.
Scientists agree the climate crisis demands the fastest possible transition away from fossil fuels to renewable energy technologies. The good news is that key technologies such as solar, wind, batteries and electric vehicles are becoming much more efficient and affordable at a remarkable rate.
However, there is disagreement as to whether these amazing technologies can reduce emissions enough to avoid possible runaway global heating. Do we also need to rein in our over-consumption lifestyles and our addiction to economic growth?
The Fremantle Network invites you to the discussion. Can we rely on technology to save us, or do we need some limits to growth?
To start our discussion of this important topic, we are delighted to have the following guest speakers:
1. Peter Newman, Professor of Sustainability, Curtin University
2. Rob Delves, XR Grandparents
3. Sophie McNeill, Greens Legislative Council MP
4. Shani Graham, Neighbourhood Village Project
Our MC for the evening is Cr. Jemima Williamson-Wong
