About the event

Poetry in Sound
Experience an enchanting journey through music and verse as two accomplished Korean artists present "Poetry in Sound" – a concert where timeless poetry finds its voice through sublime musical interpretation.

This intimate concert offers a sophisticated exploration of how poetry and music interweave to create profound artistic expression. Audiences will witness the transformation of literary works into musical landscapes, experiencing the subtle impressionistic textures of Debussy alongside the passionate romanticism of Liszt. The unique programming – presenting the same musical material in both vocal and instrumental versions – provides rare insight into the creative process of musical adaptation.

Perfect for lovers of classical music, poetry enthusiasts, and anyone seeking an evening of refined artistic expression, "Poetry in Sound" promises to be a memorable celebration of the enduring connection between word and music.

French Impressionism: The evening opens with Claude Debussy's evocative compositions, beginning with the beloved Suite Bergamasque, inspired by Paul Verlaine's moonlit poetry. This will be followed by Debussy's Quatre Chansons de Jeunesse, a collection of early songs that breathe life into poems by Théodore de Banville, Paul Verlaine, and Charles d'Orléans. These works showcase the impressionistic style that made Debussy a master of translating poetic imagery into musical color.

Italian Romanticism: The program transitions from French to Italian as we explore Franz Liszt's Tre Sonetti di Petrarca, inspired by the passionate sonnets of Francesco Petrarch. These deeply expressive pieces will be presented in both their vocal and piano versions, offering audiences the unique opportunity to experience how the same musical material transforms across different mediums.

Ji Hye Kim, Soprano A distinguished Korean soprano who has made her mark on the international stage through her studies in Korea and Italy. Her impressive competition victories include the Benvenuto Franci International Singing Competition in Pienza, the Luciano Neroni International Singing Competition in Ripatransone, and the International Singing Competition City of Alcamo.

Ji Hye has performed extensively throughout Italy and Korea, with particular expertise in Italian, French, and German bel canto repertoire. Her professional experience includes guest appearances with prestigious ensembles such as RIAS Kammerchor and Rundfunkchor in Berlin, as well as Rundfunkchor in Leipzig. Since 2015, she has served as a soprano with the Danish Radio National Vocal Ensemble, and since 2022, she has also performed with the ensemble of the Church of Our Saviour in Copenhagen.

Yun Ha Byun, Piano An accomplished Korean pianist whose musical journey spans Korea, the United States, and Denmark. Her competition achievements include 2nd Prize at the Indiana University School of Music Concerto Competition, the Mary Winston Smail Memorial Award at the Minnesota Orchestra Young Artist Competition, and recognition at the Bradshaw and Buono International Competition, among others. She has been honored twice with the Peabody Institute Career Development Award and achieved notable success at the Franz Liszt International Competition in Los Angeles.

Yun Ha has performed throughout the United States, Korea, and Israel. Since relocating to Denmark in 2014, she has dedicated herself to teaching at her own institution, Københavns Private Klaverakademi. Following her acclaimed 2023 performance of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto at Lillerød Kirke, she is returning to the concert stage with renewed artistic vision.
